Preserving Historic Stained Glass, Creating Contemporary Craftsmanship

Based in our custom studio in York, we combine time-honoured craftsmanship with a deep respect for historic materials to create and conserve stained glass windows for churches, Cathedrals, homes and heritage buildings across the North of England.

With experience conserving stained glass windows dating from the 12th century to the 21st century, we specialise in traditional glass-painting techniques and the sensitive repair of damaged glass. We work collaboratively with clients, architects, conservators and heritage professionals to meet the unique requirements of each project. Whether you are caring for a historic church window, restoring domestic stained glass, or exploring a new commission, we would be pleased to discuss how we can help.

Silver Birch Stained Glass was established in 2026 by Megan Barnett to protect and preserve stained glass heritage and artistry.

Megan is a qualified stained glass conservator (MA University of York), a member of the Institute for Conservation (PACR) and a member of the British Society of Master Glass Painters. She is passionate about passing on the traditional stained glass skills that are at risk in this heritage craft, through training and teaching. Megan’s new stained glass designs are largely inspired by her love of nature and birds, as well as her conservation work, fusing modern and traditional techniques.

After studying the traditional craft of stained glass at Swansea (BA Hons Architectural Glass), Megan won the Worshipful Company of Glaziers 'Award for Excellence' and spent 40 weeks travelling and working at the most prestigious stained glass design and conservation studios across Britain and Germany, such as Reyntiens Glass Studio, Barley Studio, Canterbury Cathedral, Holywell Glass, Derix and Peters. She has worked on the stained glass of the Houses of Parliament, the Burrell Collection (the third largest collection of medieval stained glass in the world) and Cathedrals and churches across the United Kingdom.

Working closely with a small, dedicated and experienced team based in York, she is committed to working in a sustainable and ethical way, ensuring transparency, integrity, and respect for both clients, colleagues and the invaluable heritage of stained glass.
